How we answer the question “what’s next?”

Freedom Is a Journey

In two days, millions of Americans will raise their voices together in song, chants, and protest of Trump and his cronies.

I’m sure there will be a gathering near you. In fact, you might have organized one. (Here’s the place to start looking for an event near you: https://www.mobilize.us/moveon/ )

My husband and I have joined most of the local protests organized in our area since the beginning of this chaotic journey into collective madness and cruelty. We will be part of a local protest on Saturday.

I know that some people think protests are a waste of time. I beg to differ and I refer you to the amazing people of Minneapolis and Chicago and Los Angeles whose jaw-dropping efforts have yielded measurable courage and results.

I know that some of you may be afraid. But the larger the demonstration, the safer we all are. So when you show up, you are protecting your neighbors and friends as they will protect you.

And you do possess the courage to act. I know you do.

To me, one of the most important reasons to join one of the Saturday protests is making up the numbers of people who will be counted and reported on by the media. Think about it—what is ALWAYS the top headline: “XXX million people protest against the Trump administration.”

And the larger that number, the more our collective voices count.

Please join me and your friends and neighbors on Saturday.

Thank you.
